Hostal El Castillo

I liken Punta del Este, a small town to the east of Montevideo, to a smaller French Riviera.

The beaches are gorgeous, the buildings postmodern, the restaurants sumptuous (had the most amazing salmon crepe last night).

And it's a generally accepted fact that you get what you pay for.

For example, I'm staying in at the Hostel El Castillo for about five dollars American a night.

No windows, darkly lit, a few newly dead spiders (thanks to my flips).

At least the sheets match.
