state of emergency

The governors of Rhode Island and Connecticut have declared a state of emergency.

Due to the cold.

So there's no school for two days (and because of the holiday weekend, five days in a row) and we're applying for federal aid.

My first thought was something like, "You buncha idiots! Are you kidding me?"

Then my sister's car died.

Again.

We petted it and talked to it and fiddled with all its buttons (generally does the trick), but it decided that no, it did not want to go out today.

Then I checked the weather forecast:

The temperature hovers around -10 or -15, but the windchill beings it to around -40 degrees.

Fahrenheit, kids. Fahrenheit.
