true state of emergency

So, to recap:

There's a state of emergency. Schools are out. My car won't start. It's 40 below.

But neither rain nor hail nor dead of night will stop the Friday afternoon bridge group.

So if I can't leave the Inn (where I stayed over last night) I have to wait on eight fuddy duddies who will want to discuss how cold it is over and over and over ad nauseum.

I'll have to bite my tongue not to respond, "yes, yes, it is cold. That's what happens in the winter. Next comes spring where it will rain a lot, then in summer we will be talking about how hot it is. Yes, yes, it is cold."
