update on Veronica

Veronica, the kindergartener the size of a pumpkin seed, was feeling better today.

She sang the loudest at graduation rehearsal, but sat with me at recess instead of playing.

Her rashes have gone down, but her skin is still lumpy and bumpy. She was tired, but not in any pain.

The government gives the students' families food stamps and pays for emergency room visits, but only for atrocious burns and broken bones.

Two students, a brother and sister, have a two-year-old sister who's so mentally handicapped that she's a vegetable.

The government won't help them, as they have no proof of residency because they live in a shack.
