absenteeism
I worry about all the students, naturally.
I worry because I know they go home and drink sewer water and some of their parents beat them.
And I worry because I know that many of them will grow up and do the same to their children in turn.
Today a new student joined us: Manuel. Everyone else knew him, so he's really just new for me; he simply doesn't come very often.
Like, not since I've been teaching here in Uruguay.
That's six weeks.
Then I realized I need to worry even more about the few students on the director's roster (which I haven't seen) who never show.
